The self-locking nut is a new Airdrome product design employing the use of flexible fingers at the front end of the nut to ride over a ridge on the mating fitting end. When assembled, these fingers grip the ridge integrated into the design of the mating fitting. Paramount to the locking nut assembly, is a sliding security ring which, when pushed to the front of the locking nut, prevents disengagement of the fitting joint. The fitting connection may be separated by sliding the security ring back and loosening the nut. With the security ring slid to the back of the nut, the flexible fingers are capable of riding over the ridge of the mating fitting effectively disengaging the fitting joint.

At the center of the nut, a guiding shoulder with machined slots guide the security ring back and forth between lock and unlock position. The front side of the guiding shoulder is designed with a unique contour to make the security ring rotate in a “snapping” manner when in the lock position. This feature is necessary so that the security ring cannot slide back to the unlock position under vibration.
